Naruto, Chapter 473
WOW. Kishimoto wasn’t playing this week. Killer Bee and Kisame have been tussling for weeks, and today put an end to the madness.
Kisame was pushed into quite a corner last week, with Samehada, his key to invincibility, switching sides and leaguing up with Bee. This chapter opens with Kisame holding one of Bee’s blades, and preparing to take out the fallen rapper. Too bad it wasn’t gonna work out this way.
One of my favorite aspects about manga/anime is seeing the rawest people participating in battles together. We’ve already witnessed the pure power of the Raikage during the Kage/Sasuke battle, and because of his strength, he quickly climbed my list of the most exciting characters. When he showed up during this fight to help Bee … I got hype. As if seeing Killer Bee and the Raikage on the same page isn’t exciting enough, they took it to the next level as soon as the Raikage showed up. The mighty Hoshigaki Kisame, wielder of Samehada, and called the “Monster of the Hidden Mist”, was defeated in mere seconds by a double-team attack, courtesy of the Kumogakure brothers. I literally almost dropped my coffee on my computer. CRAZY.
The rest of the chapter was pretty much a wrap-up: the Hokage’s switch-a-roo technique was concluded, Suigetsu and Juugo were inconveniently discovered as/by samurai in the Land of Iron; and Sai is going to tell Naruto the full truth of what Sakura was trying to get across a few issues ago. Overall good week — pour one out for Kisame cuz that dude is GONE!
C’mon next week!!
^Favorite Moment: Not even a question — when Killer Bee and the Raikage double-dragoned Kisame and promptly took this dude’s head off. Probably one of my all-time favorite Naruto moments, actually — glad to see such a jerk go the great sharkbowl in the sky! Peace out!!!

Naruto Shippuuden, Episode 137
Another great episode in the pivotal fight between Sasuke and Itachi. Last week left us with an image of Sasuke’s eye being torn out by Itachi, and that’s exactly what it turned to be — an image.
The entire conflict was another genjutsu by Itachi to show Sasuke his death … the thing is, though, this wasn’t just any genjutsu — Itachi broke out the Tsukuyomi for this. Amazingly, Sasuke broke out of this — the most powerful genjutsu in Naruto — with only his regular Sharingan against Itachi’s Mangekyo. As Sasuke stands, (both eyes intact and in his head) genjutsu is rendered irrelevant, and a straight ninjutsu battle ensues. Sasuke has the upper hand, partially due to Itachi’s shock at having his most powerful illusion rendered useless, and partially because Itachi is actually going blind. After a brief stand-off, Sasuke blows the ceiling off the place (literally), and the brothers find themselves on the roof, face to face.
Looking at each other, they both unleash the basic (but still powerful) attack of the Uchiha clan, the Great Fireball technique. Flame to flame, the clash reaches a standstill … until Itachi reveals the next secret of his Mangekyo Sharingan — the almighty black flame, Amaterasu. I don’t even want to get started on explaining the raw power of this technique. The black flames burn through Sasuke’s fireball, and eventually succeed in burning him to a crisp — or so we think. Sasuke has another trick up his sleeve, and uses Orochimaru’s patented body regeneration technique to save himself from a fiery death.
As the episode ends, Sasuke unleashes a mighty flame attack into the air, and the brothers stare each other, out of chakra, waiting for each to make the next move — which Sasuke seems confident will work out to his favor, of course.
A very good episode and great animation — looks like the Naruto creators finally got the message. C’mon next week!!
Favorite Moment: Right after the Tsukuyomi is broken, Sasuke goes into ninja-mode and unleashes a Shadow Shuriken technique on his older brother. Itachi dodges it, but is tricked, as the shuriken is rigged, and at the tug of a wire by Sasuke it explodes shrapnel-style and pierces Itachi square in his leg — and this wasn’t an illusion. Trickery at its finest!

Oh, and since I cheated ya’ll out of neglected to put up a Girls, Girls, Girls post yesterday (it was Thanksgiving, give me a break), here’s a young lady to enjoy. Go ahead and start Googling (is that a word…?)!

Items of Interest!
*From now on, I’ll refrain from putting the names of all the ‘Items of Interest’ in the title bar. Not visually smooth … plus it’ll make for bigger surprises, alreadyyy*
^Community Channel: I hate random YouTube-ing, but one day while scouring through the newest music videos, I came across a video with a young Asian woman as the still, with the caption “no, YOU’RE SO PRETTY” — anyone who knows me can probably visualize the trap I was then caught in. I watched it, and the video was hilarious. The young woman’s name turned out to be Natalie, she’s Australian, and her sense of humor is a top notch blend of non-chalant and “Ohhh yeahhh, that does happen!” Trust me, after watching a couple, you’ll be subscribing, too.

Final Fantasy XIII
^Final Fantasy XIII Trailer: Yet another thing I’ve been keeping close track of — Final Fantasy XIII. I am a long-time FF fan, and to have not put up anything relating to this epic game release (well, except this), is embarrassing. Mark my (and Karl Lewis’s) words, this game is going to change the climate of the Playstation 3, and very likely the entire gaming climate of 2010. Get ready!

Nicki Minaj
^Nicki Minaj: I hadn’t heard of this young lady before the beginning of this week. While treking for information about Lil Wayne’s documentary, lo and behold, images of a very .. visually intriguing .. woman entered my knowledge. Enter Nicki Minaj — New York born female rapper, and next in line to Lil Wayne’s growing ‘Young Money’ label. Aside from here formidable looks, Nicki seems to be a cool person with a genuine passion for the hip-hop world. Did I mention she’s fine? Her newest mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty, is out and available for download. Check it out, and decide for yourself!
Interesting, indeed.

Fashionisto! : Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs
A bit busy today, but I couldn’t let a Fashionisto Tuesday go by without any sort of fashion information.
Straight from New York City, is the example of a international fashion designer that is also truly American — Marc Jacobs. In terms of talent, vision, and celebrity, Jacobs is my favorite designer, and needs to be staple knowledge of anyone that claims to like fashion.
Here’s a few things to get you started:
Louis Vuitton; Marc by Marc Jacobs; Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Lil Wayne: The Carter
No disappointments here. About 3 weeks ago, when I first saw the trailer for The Carter, on Kanye West’s blog, I already knew this was going to be a must-see. I sat down last Friday, grabbed a 40 oz (Old English, of course), hit the play button, and prepared to enter a different world.
The Carter chronicles Lil Wayne’s life for a several month period centering on the release of his most commercially successful album, Tha Carter III. The music is less of a focus though, as anything else in the film takes a backseat to the actual character of Lil Wayne. After watching the 1 hour & 15 minute foray, I can honestly say that I don’t know anyone like Wayne, and unless I meet this dude, I probably never will.
He’s a weird guy. And not the bad weird, but like, honestly different. He carries a double-stacked Styrofoam cup full of syrup in one hand, and a blunt in the other, for almost the entire film. He doesn’t apologize for a single thing he’s done, and has absolutely zero concern for anyone else’s thoughts about him, especially if they relate to what he’s doing/”needs” to do. He’s an extremely hard worker, and everything in his life comes second to recording. And it’s not even a close second, because this man records like nothing I’m accustomed to knowing about.
There are several key moments in the film that I won’t give away, but suffice it to say that it’s good. (Oh man, when he kicks one clueless interviewer out of the room … you gotta see it to believe it — hilarious!)
Use your internet skills, and find this quickly, for your viewing experience. Even if don’t like rap, hip hop, or Lil Wayne, there are some strong themes in the movie that anyone can take something away from. Get on this!!!

Naruto, Chapter 472
This week’s chapter was quite interesting. The battle between Killer Bee and Kisame is raging on, and within the scuffle, there was a classic Naruto twist, as per usual.
Last week left us with Kisame going into ultimate cheat mode, when he revealed like 17 new powers, which culminated in him fusing with his sword, Samehada, and using a technique that turned the entire battlefield into an ocean, on top of land. Things were looking a bit bleak for the rapping Killer Bee.
Today’s encounter unveiled the true nature of Kisame’s water prison — it’s a giant fortress that moves as he does, so it’s impossible to run away from him while in it, and escape isn’t even an option. Killer Bee uses a octopus tentacle-fueled trick to free his friends from the prison, and then fills the water with ink to blind Kisame, and ultimately forcing him to release the prison … and here’s where it gets freaky.
As the water drops and Kisame approaches the exhausted Killer Bee to collect his prize, Kisame takes out his sword and prepares to cut of Bee’s feet so that he won’t be able to transform anymore. Right in the middle of the cut … the sword refuses to cut. I actually had to look at the drawing a couple times to make sure I saw it correctly. The sword literally curls up like a hurt puppy and refuses to harm Killer Bee. And to take it to another level, it crawls over to Bee and starts healing him with chakra, like it did to Kisame in last issue. Yes, I’m serious.
Kisame is highly upset by this point — understandably so — and runs over to his sword and kicks the s**t out of it, punting it away from the area. After cursing his treacherous sword, he grabs one of Killer Bee’s blades and prepares to finish off his opponent. Weird. Who knows what is going to happen next issue — either way, im sure it’s gonna involve Kisame’s increasingly creepy a** sword. C’mon next week!!

^Favorite Moment: Undoubtedly when Kisame realizes his sword dumped him like a bad girlfriend, and proceeds to punt it like he was playing for the Patriots. Hilarious.

Naruto Shippuuden, Episode 135 & 136
After years of waiting, one of the major plot points of Naruto has finally made it’s way to animation. The highly built-up fight between the Uchiha brothers, Sasuke and Itachi, is fully underway. This week also featured a double episode, which is always great, especially seeing as we got gypped out of an episode last Friday.
Episode 135 was largely a flashback of Itachi’s life leading up to the infamous Uchiha clan massacre, and even though I usually hate flashback dominated episodes of any show, they whipped out the good animation for this one, so it wasn’t a bother. The end culminated with the beginning of the brothers’ clash … and by clash, I mean an illusionary battle where they both stared at each other and projected battle scenes into the other’s mind. Sigh, the ridiculous endless powers of Sharingan…
The next episode, 136, was largely a flashback (yes) of the life of Uchiha Madara, and the sinister, murderous secrets behind the Sharingan, the Mangekyo Sharingan, and it’s ultimate evolution — the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. After effectively shocking the Uchiha out of Sasuke, Itachi reveals that the real reason he’s lured Sasuke to this point is so that he can rip out his little brother’s eyes, and win the fight against blindness that the Mangekyo Sharingan brings about.
After this somewhat (see: extremely) disturbing news, Sasuke quietly takes off his cloak, and gets ready for the battle of his life. A shuriken battle ensues, but it’s hard to outclass Itachi, and it’s not long before the older Uchiha has Sasuke pinned against the opposite wall, fingers prepared to pluck his brother’s eyes from his head. The episode ends with a splash of blood and a scream, implying that Sasuke might need to look for a braille teacher in the very near future.
A strong double-episode, indeed. Even though I know exactly what’s going to happen, I can’t wait for the next. C’mon, next week!!
Favorite Moment: The genjutsu battle between Itachi and Sasuke toward the end of 135 was extremely cool. Even though it was an illusion, it was good to see Itachi fighting with his hands for once, instead of, y’know … standing still.

During the past week, I’ve come ‘cross a few videos that are … legit. Musical quality, artistic quality, and … female quality are present. Take your time … a few items of interest.
*******
Rihanna – Russian Roulette. Not a bad video at all. Rihanna embracing her “deeper, darker” side, for sure. I’m down with anything Rihanna produces, so this is cool with me. The sound quality on this vid is a bit freaky, so check this out for a more legit version … alreadyyy.
——-
Robin Thicke – Sex Therapy. This video is ON POINT. I haven’t heard anything from Robin Thicke in a while, and he came back with strength on this track. The melody is smooth, and the girls in the video are beautiful. Solid.
——-
Beyonce ft. Lady Gaga – Video Phone. ARGHH!! YouTube isn’t tryin to let this one happen, but this still needs to be seen. Beyonce is… wow, that’s all I can say about this video… indeed.
——-
Lil Wayne – The Carter (Documentary), first premiere. Even though Beyonce is looking like a caramel version of Aphrodite in her video, this one takes the cake for my favorite this week. In just the first 10 minutes of this film, it’s clear this is gonna be a good one. Lil Wayne is too unique of a character for this to not be interesting.
A good Wednesday! Until later…

Black Dress
During my fashion searches, this garment caught my eye. The black dress is a classic for women, and this one does it correctly.
With fall fashion upon us, and the weather cooling down, covering up is a bit more important than in the heat of July and August. The question now becomes how to achieve the sultriness of female fashion, while having enough fabric on your skin to avoid frostbite. This dress is a perfect example of how to do it. The long sleeves and blousy construction make this into a full garment, while the relatively short hemline keeps it alluring.
This is an overall great look that could be matched with a top-coat, cinched at the waist with a belt, or worn as-is with a nice bag. The Fashionisto approves!
——-
The G-Shock. On the surface, there is not much “fashionable” about this watch, but it is actually a staple of urban fashion-types (Andy Lai, alreadyyy), and a sure way to tell time, without the pretentiousness of the watch your dad might wear. Definitely for the young.
This model caught my eye off the bat. The DW6900LR-9 is the 4th collaboration between Casio and LRG, using the G-Shock’s most popular case design. The bright yellow color is awesome, and would serve as a good contrast to a neutral-color based outfit. Make sure not to clash this with bright shoes or a “too” vibrant hat, and it’s smooth sailing.
Not to mention, these things are practically indestructible — a good investment, all around. The Fashionisto approves!
Until the next..

Google Wave
There are no words to describe this application … well, actually I guess there are, because I’m about to write about it … yeah … anyway, the point is that Google Wave is amazing.
For anyone who hasn’t heard of this computing gift, Google Wave is a new platform released by today’s internet technology giant — Google — that takes the way internet communication is conducted and gives it a red mushroom (and maybe a fire flower, too). This is achieved through the use of “waves”, which emerged out of the “obvious” (if you work at Google) question — what if email, as we know it, was invented today, with all the communication technology that exists in the modern world?
Back in June, I visited Karl Lewis in Austin, and he was the first to let me know about the mysterious Google Wave. We giggled like true anime geeks, speaking about “rich text formatting”, “multiple participant, real time conversations”, and most importantly, “the end of email“.
And this is what I want everyone to be clear on. I’m not interested in giving a detailed breakdown of Google Wave’s features — I want to tell what I see it as. Rest assured, the dynamic format of Wave, which combines every feature of any type of email platform (yes, including Gmail, which is also made obsolete by Wave) ever invented, and combines the best attributes of live internet communication … will put a gradual and deliberate end to anything else we thought was useful before this. You heard it here. It’s just that innovative, and intuitive. Next level, for sure.
Check out the videos, and decide for yourself. There’s the long one, and a more … user-friendly … one as well.
And, of course, thanks to Karl Lewis for the invite — haha it’s game time.

Art of Manliness
Thanks once again to Karl Lewis for this interesting find. I strolled across his Facebook status yesterday evening, and per his recommendation, decided to check this out. (Isn’t it interesting how information/knowledge is spread, nowadays?)
‘Art of Manliness’ is a series of blog entries collected into a website, that offers specific advice and, well, help on enacting the classical behaviors and ideas of “manliness”. Covering the obligatory areas of grooming, money, women, and much more, it really is a solid reference to fill in the holes on “what a man ought to do in X situation”.
Now let’s get this straight, first off — my best advice to anyone in any situation is that they’ll achieve the most success if they remain true to themselves and be themselves. That being said, there are also tried-and-true ways to navigate through MANY situations, and there are certain timeless characteristics that make up the “male aura”. Combine your own spirit with things that are known to work — you must operate in the reality you live in, regardless, and it’s okay to do it in your own style.
At any rate, I’ll definitely be referring to this from time to time. There’s even a 30-day guide to being a better man, to get you started — can’t hurt to check it out!
Get On This!!
Until the next..

Naruto, Chapter 471
This weeks chapter was … interesting. The 3 main segments of this issue were a continuing of the trapping technique set by Danzo and his assistants last week, a brief and cryptic conversation between the Mizukage and Chōjūrō, and — the true show — the heightening battle between Kisame and Killer Bee!
Okay, the battle itself is quite entertaining, but there is one thing worth noting. I was talking (i.e. text screaming like a fanboy) with my friend Andy Lai after reading the chapter, and he brought up a very good point. There is ALOT of cheating going on in Naruto these days. The Sharigan started it, a long time ago. As if that wasn’t bad enough, there is a higher level of the Sharingan — the Mangekyo Sharingan — which grants the user basic god-like powers above anyone without one. Oh, and just to further unbalance the series, there is the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, which is just ridiculous. It takes the only weakness of the Mangekyo — degrading eyesight culminating in blindess, which makes the Sharingan un-usuable — and throws that out the window. Straight up cheating … I mean, really, you can’t stand against this. I’m not even going to go into elaborating the abilities of the Sharingan — that’s where it gets ridiculous.
Well, right now, our two Sharingan users are out of action — Sasuke’s knocked out, and Madara is cryptically unavailable, as usual, so I’m thinking we’ll have a cheat-free battle. Wrong. Hoshigaki Kisame took this to a whole other level. Let’s start with what we know so far:
a) he naturally has a chakra level on par with most jinchuuriki
b) Samehada, his sword, absorbs chakra from anyone near him, essentially with no limit to the amount of chakra it can eat or the amount it can consume at one time
c) he can literally alter the environments he’s fighting in, turning deserts into lakes, with his water techniques
d) his sword has a whip like, extending handle, that can reach enemies from a distance, as well, just in case the opponent thinks distance is the key to beating him
All this is ridiculous enough, but then we got some more revelations this chapter:
e) there is no upward limit to the amount of chakra Samehada can consume, and it grows stronger and larger the more it eats
f) turns out, Samehada can heal Kisame from fatal wounds, just by being near him
g) the vitality Samehada absorbs is continuously transferred to Kisame so he becomes stronger and MORE energetic as a battle continues, versus his opponent, who is getting weaker from having their chakra drained
h) and to top it off, in case the opponent figures out that the key to weakening Kisame is by separating him from his sword, he can ABSORB the sword into his body, becoming freakishly stronger, and eliminating any hope of his enemy catching that movie with their girlfriend tomorrow night
RIDICULOUS. C’mon, seriously, what is there to do about this?!?? I’m not even going to bother with a chapter play-by-play. Suffice it to say that Killer Bee might soon be Killed Bee. And I hate to say this because I hate Kisame, but this dude is too raw … at cheating.
However, no matter what, c’mon next week!!!

^Favorite Moment: Even though I can’t stand Kisame, it was pretty crazy when Killer Bee split his chest open with a charging attack, basically putting Kisame on the edge of death, and Samehada stepped in and COMPLETELY healed him. Upseting, but surprising.
——-

No Naruto Anime This Week
Arghhhh!!!! Just as the anime was heating up, too!! The fight with Sasuke and Itachi is starting — which is one of the best encounters in the entire series — and the anime decides to take a week off!!! Grrrr!!
C’mon next week!!!
Favorite Moment: Stop.
